Finding Our Way

Finding our way is an innovative project and is the brain child of Swanlinbar Development Association.

The project aims to build on the strengths and existing groups and facilities within the Swanlinbar area and build relationships with our border neighbours.  The project offers activities for younger people including triathlon and soccer for all.

These are run in association with Florencecourt and Ballinamallard and provide opportunities for our young people to break down the barriers and build friendships across the border and religious divides.

A Triathlon coach will deliver skills coaching to Soil Mhuire and Florencecourt PS pupils. These skills will then be utilised in a celebration Triathlon at The Share Centre Lisnaskea. Parents will be invited to this event.

Orienteering skills will be provided for 15 volunteers. Through our funding we will also map the border areas of Florencecourt and Swanlinbar. This will provide a sustainable tool going forward to allow the trained volunteers to deliver orienteering events. Family fundays in each area will encourage outside participation and visitors to our areas. IRISH CHAMPIONSHIPS are coming to the area in 2019. Scheduled for the first Bank Holiday in May Friday 3rd to Monday 6th May in County Fermanagh.

A varied programme of activities for older people are hosted in Trivia House, Swanlinbar to engage with those in the area.

Ongoing training to enhance our committee members skills in community work will also be delivered as important part of building a stronger community for sustainability.

Finding our Way community co-ordinator is Sharon Howe.

SDA thank the IFI for the funding which allows for this exciting and innovative project.
