On 15 March 2018  Florencecourt PS and Scoil Muire, two schools from each side of the border came together to participate in a peace Triathlon at the Share Centre, Lisnaskea.  The cross border project ‘Finding Our Way’, administered by the Swanlinbar Development Association organised the event and the activities were facilitated by Cuilcagh Triathlon Club.

Funded by the International Fund for Ireland under its Peace Impact Programme, the project addressed the deficit of cross community and cross border participation in the Swanlinbar and border area.  Pupils from both schools engaged in a training programme comprising swimming, cycling and running activities in each other schools and the Share Centre.  Supported by a crowd of enthusiastic parents’ pupils completed a triathlon as a grand finale.  This encouraged the young people to work on a cross community and cross border basis in a way that breaks down barriers and builds positive relationships.

Sharon Howe, Community Co-Ordinator said:  ‘The ‘Finding Your Way’ project Peace Triathlon demonstrates the pivotal role the IFI plays in enabling and facilitating greater cohesion and engagement with young people in Swanlinbar and with those a few miles away across the border in Florencecourt, Co  Fermanagh.  Support from within the community for this project was evidenced by the large number of volunteers from Cuilcagh Triathlon Club who helped on the day’.
